LCSD RECEIVES STEM INITIATIVE GRANT
May 7-11, 2018, is a special week in Lauderdale County
School District. This is the week that we honor our
teachers. Teacher Appreciation Week began in 1984, as
the National PTA designated one week in May as a time
to celebrate those who give their passion and skills to
educating our children. I encourage each of you to take
some time in the upcoming days and thank a teacher for
their dedication to this profession. Teachers have an
enormous inMluence in the lives of so many. “Thank
You” does not even adequately express how much you
have meant to me as superintendent. We are an outstanding
district because of the difference you make.
Randy Hodges, Superintendent
National School Nurse Day is also May 9, 2018. Thank you for being an advocate for
students! We recognize that your interventions and actions are a critical compo-
nent to ensuring student learning. We appreciate all you do for our schools and dis-
trict.
Last week it was announced that Lauderdale County School District was one of thir-
teen districts to be awarded a STEM Initiative Grant by MDE. This $120,000 grant is
awarded to our four elementary schools ($30,000 per school) and will be used to
provide additional technology, professional development, and instructional materi-
als for STEM. Today it is more critical than ever for districts to look for outside fund-
ing opportunities to move above and beyond the general curriculum. This grant
will help us provide our youngest students with opportunities to learn about key-
boarding, digital citizenship, coding, and robotics. Congratulations to our elemen-
tary schools!
