1. INTRODUCTION

1. ÚVOD

The Izmit Bay Suspension Bridge carries the new
Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir motorway across the Sea of
Marmara at the Bay of Izmit in northern Turkey. The
420 kilometer motorway was contracted by Turkish
State General Directorate of Highways to “OTOYOL
YATIRIM ve İŞLETME A.Ş.” which was formed by Nurol,
Ozaltin, Makyol, Astaldi and Gocay as a Build-OperateTransfer (BOT) concession project for 22 years and 4
months in September 2010. The NOMAYG joint
venture was formed by the same five companies as
OTOYOL, acting as the EPC implementing body to
construct the motorway including the Izmit Bay
Suspension Bridge. The tender process for the bridge
construction started in 2010.

A.Ş.”, která je tvořena společnostmi Nurol, Ozaltin,
Makyol, Astaldi a Gocay, v režimu projektu BuildOperate-Transfer (BOT). Joint Venture NOMAYG bylo
vytvořeno stejnými pěti společnostmi jako OTOYOL v
režimu EPC za účelem výstavby 420 km dlouhé trasy
silnice včetně visutého mostu v Izmit Bay. Veřejná
zakázka na realizaci mostu byla vypsána v roce 2010.

The geotechnical investigation was conducted by
Fugro between November 2010 and April 2011 under
a contract from OTOYOL AS in order to assess the
local geology and site conditions around the proposed
bridge foundations and specifically the presence of
seismic faulting. Construction of the Suspension
Bridge was contracted in July 2011 to a consortium of
IHI Infrastructure System and Itochu as EPC
contractor. IHI-ITOCHU employed COWI to undertake
the detailed design of the bridge, and HALCROW as
Independent design checker.

Fugro realizovalo geotechnický průzkum v listopadu
2010 až dubnu 2011 na základě smlouvy s OTOYOL AS.
Cílem tohoto průzkumu bylo stanovení místních rizik
selhání, geologie a podmínek v místě základů a
budoucího staveniště mostu. V červenci 2011 byla
uzavřena smlouva se sdružením IHI Infrastructure
System a Itochu jako zhotoviteli v režimu EPC.
Projektová dokumentace byla zhotovena společností
COWI, IHI-ITOCHU působila jako dozor a HALCROW
bylo zadáno nezávislé ověření projektu.

Visutý most Izmit Bay je spojitý most se třemi
poli. Hlavní pole má 1 550 metrů a společně se
dvěma přístupovými poli se stane v době
svého dokončení v roce 2016 čtvrtým
nejdelším visutým mostem na světě.
The Izmit Bay Suspension Bridge consists of a
three span continuous suspension bridge
having the main span of 1550m which will be
the world’s fourth longest span suspension
bridge at completion in 2016.
