2 PRINTPACK INDIA 2019 SHOW DAILY 2 February 2019 | Supported by Indian Printer & Publisher and Packaging South Asia packaging market not only with its mul- ticolor offset presses but with the con- verting equipment that is manufactured by its largest shareholder, Masterworks. Similarly, the Provin-RMGT-Miya- koshi-Techno Rolls stand that was in- augurated the evening before the show started, has a clear thrust on packaging and labels – with an RMGT 6-color plus coater UV offset press and the Miyako- shi hybrid label machine shown running at its stand in Hall 1. The Komori stand in Hall 9 also has a multicolor packag- ing press running at the show – a first for Komori as it recognizes the strong Indian trend toward packaging. It is clear from this edition of the show that many commercial printers are already in carton packaging and labels. It is also clear that now they are not merely looking at starting up with a used mul- ticolor press and a diecutter and folder gluer but that a greater number are keen to invest in high value and high volume packaging with the most efficient and automated machines available. A first look on the first day and a few conversations with exhibitors and with some visitors show that even some of the largest packaging companies in the country including global companies with Indian subsidiaries are visiting the show. Of the big seven global compa- Inauguration ceremony at the Heidelberg stand at Printpack 2019 nies in packaging printing and con- verting, six are here at the show: Hei- delberg, Masterwork, KBA, Komori, RMGT and Bobst. Of course, Heidel- berg and Masterwork are now here for the first time anywhere in the world as one company. Notably, Heidelberg and Bobst also manufacture label presses, while RMGT’s distributor in India is actually showing the Miyakoshi hybrid press running with multiwave LED cur- ing at its stand. There are many diecutters and folder gluers at Printpack this time, which we will be looking at in the com- ing days. The idea of bringing in label presses to the show also seems like a success at first glance with several Indian-manufactured label presses be- ing shown over the six days. There is a new and welcome sophistication at this in terms of Indian print and converting equipment manufacturing that I think we will be talking about in the days and months to come. Do visit the show if you haven’t already. And, do stop by at our stand A36 in Hall 1, where we are producing the Printpack Show Daily on all days of the show, both in print and in digital newsletter and eMagazine ver- sions each. Come and have a chat and take part in our Show Daily Live Vide program each day at 4 p.m. Deal announced on day 1 of Printpack DGM signs up Pragati Pack for SmartFold 1100PC folder gluer Shardul Sharma D GM India on February 1, the first day of Printpack 2019, an- nounced the sale of SmartFold 1100PC folder gluer to Hyderabad- based Pragati Pack. “The most impor- tant reason for us going for the Smart- Fold 1100PC is that the automation in the machine makes a lot of sense. It makes the make ready process very easy. Another reason was the fact that I have known Puneet Agarwal, who is heading DGM India, for very long and we have a great relationship,” says Nar- endra Paruchari of Pragati Pack. The machine that will be installed at Pragati pack is being displayed at DGM’s stand at Printpack 2019. Ac- cording to Paruchari, the folder gluer will be commissioned at Pragati’s facil- ity by 20 February 2019. SmartFold 1100PC can process straight line, crash lock bottom and double wall boxes. This machine has the capability to handle solid board up to 800-gsm and micro-fluted 3-ply up to 20-mm folded thickness. “Memorized function helps in faster make ready as conveyer movements are with a press of a button and once job is set, we can save the job and can recall whenever is repeat. When we recall the setting, conveyors will automatically start moving from section to section, no more hassle of moving conveyors by handle and maintainance of a log book,” says Puneet Aggarwal, manag- ing director, DGM India. DGM India is a wholly-owned sub- sidiary of China-based DGM Machin- ery. This is the first deal signed by the DGM India, which was established last year. Although there are 25 DGM ma- chines installed in India, they have been sold through agents. Taking about the Pragati deal, Ten- ny Chu of DGM says, “This is a very important deal for us as Pragati Pack is a leading company in the industry and to have them as our first customer in ex- tremely significant.” According to Chu, the company is targeting top tier con- vertors in the India for whom technol- ogy is the most important factor.
