Your father is a painter and was your inspiration at an early age and you studied art straight up through college. That must have been a great help when you started tattoo- ing. How did you make the transition from painter to tat- tooer? My first contact with art came through my father. All my child- hood i lived surrounded by art, in all sorts of ways, it was part of my daily life. All this made me end up following my stud- ies in the same area and, curi- ously, my first contact with the world of tattooing was at the University. The transition from painting to tattooing came by chance. It emerged as a mere curiosity to try out a different canvas, to draw on a human body. And you still paint quite a lot? Not as much as I want to be- cause tattooing takes most of my time ... working at the stu- dio where I am resident, stu- dios where I make guest spots, conventions, preparing the tattoo projects for all the ap- 73
