because maybe in some way it’s more legit in their eyes. They want a little piece of American culture, and they want it done by an actual American. Its more exotic to them in europe, at home I’m just another let- tering dude (laughs) As I said earlier, I see some great flowing line work in good script work but do you think great script work gets the respect it deserves or is it overlooked by some artists who do other styles or by judging at conventions? I don’t feel like it’s necessarily overlooked but maybe misunderstood. Es- pecially by judges because they may not really know what goes into mak- ing a nice lettering piece. Sometimes it’s easy to get blown away by all the bells and whistles added on that to the naked eye looks sick and grabs their attention, but sometimes less is more and to me there’s other things they may not have factored in to judging the quality of the piece like the flow, the balance, placement, etc Is there any style you want to take a shot at that you haven’t yet? 35
