because maybe in
some way it’s more
legit in their eyes.
They want a little
piece of American
culture, and they
want it done by an
actual American. Its
more exotic to them
in europe, at home
I’m just another let-
tering dude (laughs)
As I said earlier,
I see some great
flowing line work
in good script work
but do you think
great script work
gets the respect
it deserves or is
it overlooked by
some artists who
do other styles or by judging at conventions?
I don’t feel like it’s necessarily overlooked but maybe misunderstood. Es-
pecially by judges because they may not really know what goes into mak-
ing a nice lettering piece. Sometimes it’s easy to get blown away by all the
bells and whistles added on that to the naked eye looks sick and grabs
their attention, but sometimes less is more and to me there’s other things
they may not have factored in to judging the quality of the piece like the
flow, the balance, placement, etc
Is there any style you want to take a shot at that you haven’t yet?
