can ever take away . It was pretty incredible getting a tickertape parade in NYC and getting the key to NYC , and being able to do all the things we ’ ve been able to do since the World Cup . I think there is also an obligation that comes with all of these great things and that is why we are continuing to fight for equal pay . I think when you gain the respect of the country and the world and President Obama even says , ‘ These chicks are bad-asses ’, there ’ s an obligation to progress from there . Now we walk outside and everyone recognizes us , but how do we progress that and continue to grow the success of females . I ’ m not just talking about women ’ s soccer , but women in general . We need to continue to push on to earn better wages and earn better respect .
What your team is doing is very respectable . Somebody needed to speak up and it ’ s nice to see that you guys are doing that . Hopefully we can start to see some changes as a result . Along the lines of newfound fame , it seems like soccer has opened other doors for you . I know you have worked with outside entities such as the TWLOHA organization . What does it mean to you to have this platform to get your word out to so many people now ? I think it ’ s a pretty special thing to be heard . I always want to share my story and be genuine and authentic . I always want to be true to myself , who I am , and what I ’ m about . With that comes struggle . I ’ ve been at it for a long time . Sometimes people look at me and think , ‘ She has it all ,’ but I think that perfection in my world does not exist and I am okay to say that . I came to the realization one day that , ‘ You know , I am having a really hard day and instead of putting on the happy face that everyone wants me to put on I ’ m just going to be me .’ It ’ s okay to say , ‘ I ’ m struggling today . I ’ m struggling to be enough and I ’ m struggling to be satisfied with what I ’ ve accomplished .’ I think if I feel like I can ’ t even talk about it , how is anyone else able to talk about it . I start getting more and more comfortable
