David Osorio So you have been tattooing for 11 years, did you have any formal train- ing before that? I went to college to be an art teacher, I have a sculpting background, Paint- ing background, music background, a bunch of art stuff. How did that lead to tattooing? I got a tattoo when I was a teen ager when I was in high school and thought “this is something I would LOVE to try.” I tried it out and was doing it while I went to college and slowly got better and obviously stuck with it. I didn’t really have a plan. Why did you decide to open your own shop? I always wanted to do my own thing and do something a little different, so I stayed away from the traditional being a dickhead. I wanted to give my guys and myself to the freedom to express how we work and have a cool environment. Anybody who has worked in my shop can vouch for that. It’s a peaceful, cool environment. Every shop I ever worked at there was the pressure to make money, make money, make money. I didn’t want that. I wanted a nice artistic place where you could concentrate on your stuff and that’s it. How would you describe your style? Realism with a little mashup I would say. I like to combine images like a portrait with some architecture and mash them up and have my own light sources. I would say realism for the most part and portraits, animals, flowers. 277
