that express their passions for both music and literature. A fun and funky fireplace that the Craigs found and mimicked from a magazine completes the room with its angles and intricate stonework surround. This deceptively large home includes a third level, which serves as a master suite. “One of the criteria for Skeeter and I to move here was that there would be an area of the home that was designed in his favorite motif which is more Southwestern than Lowcountry,” described Shirley. “While that sounded challenging, our designer, Charlotte Tilton and Todd O’Dell collaborated, and the end result is a master suite that suits both Skeeter’s love of the Southwest and creates a place of rest for both of us.” The master suite is designed with both Shirley and Skeeter in mind. The king sized bed with heavy cur- tains has a spectacular view of the ocean to one side and the TV and an interesting commissioned painting on the other. An old chest sits at the foot of the bed. There is also a private nook with a colorful two-seater sofa and a fireplace embellished with hand made Native American sand tiles. The reeded doors are reproduc- tions that were created by builder, Ling Graves. The master bath ties the space together once again with a mixture of textures and materials including a teak surround jacuzzi, enormous walk in glass shower, and beautiful warm stone provided by Distinctive Granite & Marble. The Craigs have truly integrated the Lowcountry flavor and style of their home with the new and contemporary architecture of the future. “It is amazing,” said Shirley, “that we live where we can see the ocean and the reeds blowing in the wind and just breathe the fresh air. We are home.” M More striking visuals can be found in the master suite, from the Native American-themed art in the sitting area (top left) to the bathroom (above) and bedroom (bottom right).
