AGES 6−8 July 29 — August 2 9AM — 12PM August 5 — 9 1PM — 4PM August 12 — 16 1PM — 4PM YELLOW! POP into Art! Light: science + magic Sonya Taylor Moore Maggie Stewart Ian Edquist CONCEPT Take a journey into the extraordinary world of Vincent 6 — 8 van Gogh. What makes his style so beloved by people around the world? Why did he use such thick paint to express himself? Was his favorite color really yellow? We ask ourselves these questions and more in daily lessons about the artist. We consider the unique artistic style and expressive qualities of Van Gogh’s paintings as we craft our own artwork inspired by him. Students make ceramic sunflower vases, oversized paint brush sculptures, Starry Night painted canvases and skillful self portraits throughout the week. Join us on this incredibly colorful and imaginative week of art! FACULTY Sonya Taylor Moore is the owner of the Yellow Canary Art Studio as well as the art instructor at Ross Montessori School in Carbondale, CO. Prior to that, she was the Children’s Coordinator at Anderson Ranch Arts Center. This unique combination of working with children and creating art is Sonya’s dream job — one she is thrilled to be able to share with the Roaring Fork Valley. www.yellowcanaryart.com CONCEPT Kazaam! Pow! Varoom! This week we look at 6 — 8 famous artists who were a part of the American Pop Art movement. We discover the Bandaid dot paintings of Roy Lichtenstein and his comic book imagery, Jim Dine’s energetic hearts, and Claes Oldenburg’s giant cloth sculptures of everyday objects. We take our inspiration from these modern masters to create our very own Pop Art pieces that reference the culture of today. Students use a wide range of artistic media - such as papier-mâché, construction paper, paint, chalk, fabric and more - to create bold, bright and beautiful artistic creations. FACULTY Maggie Stewart is a professional artist and owner of Mama’s Belly Inc., a business specializing in bronze belly bowls. She also creates one-of-a-kind work along with public art in collaboration with her husband. Maggie has taught for over 25 years in a variety of museums, art centers, schools and colleges. She maintains a studio and foundry in Denver and sells her art worldwide. www.mamasbelly.com CONCEPT Dive into the world of photography and engage with the world around you using your eyes and your trusty partner, the camera! In this workshop we seek out the desire for humans to capture the world they live in and how those images can tell us stories about ourselves, where we’ve been, and where we want to go. Using a variety of tools and methods developed over the ages, students will learn some of the earliest processes for capturing images, such as cyanotypes and pinhole cameras, building up to the state of analog and digital photography technology today. Students will explore the Anderson Ranch campus for unique photo opportunities and take home prints of some of their favorites. Digital cameras (we encourage you to bring your own if you have one), computers and printers are available. Join us for this exciting photographic adventure! 6 — 8 FACULTY Ian David Edquist is a graduate of Colorado Mountain College’s Professional Photography program and a former intern of Anderson Ranch’s Photography and Marketing departments. Ian is a lifelong local to the Roaring Fork Valley. His personal work explores manmade objects and their relationship in the landscape. Dedicated to creativity, he also works as a freelance photographer specializing in documenting artworks, exhibitions and collections. www.ianedquist.com TUITION $275 TUITION $275 TUITION $275 REGISTRATION FEE $25 | STUDIO FEE $15 REGISTRATION FEE $25 | STUDIO FEE $15 REGISTRATION FEE $25 | STUDIO FEE $15 CODE K0915-19 ENROLLMENT LIMIT 15 CODE K1020-19 ENROLLMENT LIMIT 15 CODE K1122-19 ENROLLMENT LIMIT 15 | | | children’s workshops 89
