CONCEPT
Overcome the challenges that present themselves in your artistic practice, and
heighten your craft in this three-year mentored study. This workshop explores questions brought
forth by you regarding your work, resulting in critiques that are intense, responsive and specific. We
identify the strengths and limitations of your current work and practice, and then re-energize your
skill set. In addition, you should expect to work outside of the workshop. This course is most useful for
artists who have considerable painting experience, especially for those familiar with contemporary
practices and theory.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES You are welcome to use materials of your choice. Typically, students
use paint, charcoal or enamel on canvas, but there are no limitations. Feel free to bring works already
in progress or start with new work during the workshop. Drying time and size should be considered
in relation to shipping.
ACTIVITIES
We primarily focus on studio time, which is then supported by slide presentations,
discussions and critiques driven by instructor questions and students’ paintings. Readings and short
daily writing assignments are also part of the course work.
