Purpose of the qualification The qualification is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills in administration and communication in a business environment. It provides students with tools and techniques that will enable them to communicate efficiently and effectively in a business environment and to perform a range of office administration tasks. Access the Part-Time qualification academic calendar here. 2.1 IIE Higher Certificate in Human Resource PRACTICES (HHR) IIE Diploma in Sport Development and Management (DSDM314) Mode of Offering: Full-Time Contact Mode of Offering: Distance Purpose of the qualification The purpose of this qualification is to educate and qualify learners to take up entry level positions in human resource and payroll administration related jobs. The qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed to administer and conduct various human resource functions including payroll administration, against the background of labour legislation and statutory requirements. The qualification requires learners to demonstrate an understanding of theoretical human resource and payroll administration skills and the application of these skills. The core focus of the qualification is on human resource management and payroll administration which is taught in the modules: Human Resource Practice 1A and 1B, Pastel Payroll and Payroll Administration. Supporting modules are required to provide the background against which human resource and payroll administration are applied in business. These modules include, inter alia, Business Management and Office Administration. Business Communication and Introduction to Personal Computing which will further prepare the learner to meet the generally accepted requirements of employees in modern business practice. Purpose of the qualification The purpose of this qualification is to meet an acknowledged need in a niche market and ensure employability for successful students within the greater sports industry and related industries, through the presentation, teaching, exposure and assessment of relevant knowledge and skills. The qualification is proposed to provide specific skills to allow these students immediate employability in local government, councils, schools, health and wellness organisations and industry. The qualification will provide the sports industry with graduates with sound skills and competencies based on the theoretical principles of sport development and management. These skills and competencies have been identified as national priorities, as they provide each graduate with specialist skills in either the management of facilities or the management of the development process for athletes in general. This qualification is not for those that will coach or directly train athletes, it seeks to serve the industry around the athlete. Exit level outcomes of the qualification • Communicate effectively, ethically and professionally in a business environment, demonstrating the ability to present and communicate information reliably and appropriately. • Apply a range of management principles and theories to the different facets of the sports industry in the South African context. Mode of offering: Part-Time Contact The WIL (Workplace Integrated Learning) component of the qualification requires the linking of all the key elements logically and demonstrated competence thereof in a simulated case study project, to refine the application of skills learned across the programme as a whole. The curriculum contributes to the achievement of the intended outcomes by introducing basic concepts that provide the foundation and the application of theoretical skills to a broad range of practical contexts.
