2. IIE Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communication (BACC311) – Full-time
Purpose of the qualification
The purpose of this qualification is to promote access to higher education and to qualify
students to follow a career in Corporate Communication. This 3 year degree is structured in
accordance with the new HEQF guidelines with the total minimum of 360 credits of which a
minimum of 120 are at HEQF level 7 and a maximum of 96 are at HEQF level 5.

A. Undergraduate Qualifications
IIE Bachelor of Arts (BAG314) – Full-time
Purpose of the qualification
The purpose of this qualification is to promote access into higher education and to enable qualified
students to function effectively in communication related jobs in a range of environments.
Students will be prepared to apply their competencies in Media, Communication and English
language skills which are relevant in a number of industries. Students will be able to contribute
positively and responsibly to the economic well being of their organisation. This 3 year degree
is structured in accordance with the new HEQSF guidelines and will provide students with the
knowledge, skills and applied competencies which have been identified by the industry as critical
for employees to have when entering the world of work. Students will be well prepared with
insight and skills to make them employable. Students will also be prepared to further their studies
which support the principles of life long learning.
Through a focus on interdisciplinary areas, the essential skills of creative problem solving, critical
thinking, working effectively in teams, and the ability to take and adapt to criticism in changing
environments will be practised and imbued. Significantly, the ability to communicate effectively
using written and verbal skills will be thoroughly addressed throughout the degree by focusing on
media writing, communication and literature. This indispensable proficiency will provide students
with an advantage in the workplace and promote access into a variety of entry level positions from
which they may promote themselves.

This qualification will provide students with the knowledge, skills and applied competencies
identified by industry as critical for employees to enter the world of work as corporate
communicators in either the private, the government sector or in NGOs. Graduates will be
well prepared for this field with a set of skills which will position them to add value to the
organisation that employs them and, if desired, to study further in a related specialisation.
Exit level outcomes of the qualification
• Demonstrate the ability to apply and evaluate the key theories of corporate
communication to associated fields of study.
• Demonstrate the ability to identify, analyse, formulate, and solve problems of
communication, of individual and societal kinds, responsibly and creatively.
• Communicate effectively and professionally in a business environment, demonstrating
the ability to present and communicate information reliably, appropriately and
coherently using academic/business conventions and formats.
• Demonstrate an ability to develop and communicate one’s own ideas and opinions in
well formulated arguments, using appropriate academic or professional language.
• Demonstrate an ability to operate in a range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts to
achieve strategic communication goals.
