Any student who was deputy head prefect, or equivalent, of a school during 2018, who is registered for a full complement of subjects/modules and who is attending lectures at The IIE’s Varsity College in 2019 qualifies for a R3500 award in respect of 2019 tuition fees only. 2.1 SPORTS CLUB CAPTAIN BURSARY Critical to the success of the Sports Clubs on campus are the dedicated, committed and experienced Sports Club Captains. If you’re passionate about any of the sports offered on your campus and you have the administration skills and energy to see it grow in a student environment, please apply on campus to become a Sports Club Captain. This bursary is applicable to the following sports: cycling/mountain biking, canoeing/surf skiing, surfing, golf, running, touch rugby, eSports, fitness club, running/athletics and all action sports. A Sports Club Captain bursary is only available if your campus offers that particular Sports Club. 2.2 MAJOR SPORTS CLUB BURSARIES Bursaries are available to students who have achieved a high level of sporting performance (e.g. provincial or national representation) and are interested in becoming a member of one of The IIE’s Varsity College’s competitive Sports Clubs e.g. rugby (KZN), hockey (KZN), football (Sandton), netball (Cape Town), water polo (KZN) and softball (Pretoria). 2.3 NATIONAL SPORT DISCRETIONARY BURSARIES The National Sports Discretionary Bursaries are available to students who have represented South Africa at National Senior A level prior to registering at Varsity College. These are available at all campuses. Preference is given to sporting disciplines currently offered by The IIE’s Varsity College. SPORTS BURSARY APPLICATION PROCESS Complete the sports bursary application form, compile a CV of your sporting achievements and a short motivation as to why you would be suitable for one of the above sports bursaries. You can submit all these documents when you come in for an interview with a Student Advisor at your nearest campus or at the point of registration. PAGE 28 Additional awards and bursaries for academic and sport are available, that are specific to individual campuses. Ensure you speak to a Student Advisor from your chosen campus before selecting this option. CONDITIONS Please note that all awards, bursaries and scholarships (hereafter referred to as bursaries unless stipulated) are subject to the following conditions: Bursaries may only be applied for when the following conditions are met: • Academic bursaries are in respect of 2018 performance and are applicable to 2019 programme fees only, unless otherwise stipulated. • Bursaries, with the exception of Sports team bursaries, and unless specifically stipulated in the definition, do not apply to Part Time students. • A full complement of modules must be registered for, as per The IIE programme structure document. This is applicable to academic bursaries, engagement and leadership bursaries. • For undergraduate students in their final year of study: a minimum of 4 modules must be registered for to qualify for an award or bursary. • Postgraduate students may only apply for a bursary in their first year of postgraduate studies. • This is applicable to academic bursaries, engagement and leadership bursaries. • While more than one category of bursary may be applied for, the maximum amount of bursary support per student per year is up to 20% of the programme fees with the exception of Sports Club, where the bursary values may be higher. This rule may not apply to scholarships. Sibling awards will only be paid where the account payer is the same for both siblings and the students are both studying Full Time Qualifications. • The percentage of a bursary awarded can only be calculated on the total contractual amount post the processing of all applicable fee credits or additional fixed value awards that might apply. • Should the account fall into arrears and payments not be made according to the payment plan selected, The IIE’s Varsity College reserves the right to cancel the bursary. • Should a registration contract be cancelled, the bursary awarded will be reversed. • Full-time students who are bursary recipients are committed to providing a minimum of 20 hours of active assistance/support to The IIE’s Varsity College with the exception of the Sports Club Bursary, VC Cares Bursary, SLB Bursary and VC Voice where the requirements are higher and are stipulated in a separate agreement that the student will need to sign. • Please note bursary applications will not be considered if: • They are not received by 31 January 2019 for all programmes. • They are not accompanied by the necessary documentary evidence (e.g. testimonial, exam results, letter on sports union letterhead, etc). • All applicable students must be issued with a Bursary approval letter confirming the award. • Repeat modules are not to be included in the Bursary Calculations 29 There are a number of sport bursaries available to students who have excelled in their respective sport disciplines according to the different categories included in this handbook, in addition to students who are interested in becoming a Varsity College Sports Club Captain. 5. OTHER 2. SPORT BURSARY CATEGORIES Any immediate family unit who has more than one member attending Full Time Lectures at The IIE’s Varsity College in the same year - where the account payer is the same – will qualify for a 5% award on each member’s fees for 2019 (excluding academic material). Any student attending lectures at Varsity College in 2019, who obtained a 75% aggregate for a Full- Time programme registered for in 2018 at Varsity College, qualifies for an award in the amount of R4000 in respect of 2019 tuition fees only. 4. STUDENT SIBLING AWARD 1.2 Any student achieving a National Senior Certificate pass with an average of 80% across seven subjects in 2018 qualifies for a bursary of R4000 in 2019. Should the student have more than three selected electives, the best of the three will be considered. 1.1 1.
