A safe campus is one where you are assured of the quality and integrity of your chosen tertiary
learning environment and a space where you are able to pursue your learning experience without
any fear of a threat to your safety, health and well-being at all times. Below is what The IIE’s Varsity
College has in place to honour the importance of you, our student’s, safety. The IIE’s Varsity College employs private security staff to assist Campus Management with
security on campus. It is imperative that you follow requests or instructions given by the
campus security, for your safety.

Designated Smoking Area
According to legislation, cigarettes (available in canteen facilities) may not be sold to individuals
under the age of eighteen (18).
Smoking area that is identified and demarcated in
accordance with legislation The use of tobacco is governed by smoking control legislation. As such, the use of any tobacco
products, including e-cigarettes/Vapes is only allowed in designated smoking areas, allocated in
accordance with legislation, on campus. Please note that E-cigarettes/Vapes etc are also not allowed
in classes.
Substitution of a tobacco substance with a controlled or prohibited substance or the addition of a
controlled or prohibited substance when using tobacco products will result in disciplinary action.
Fire Marshal
The IIE’s Varsity College staff trained and registered to
assist in the evacuation of students and staff during a
fire drill. During a fire drill, Fire Marshals will be wearing
reflective safety vests for easy identification

11.3 Legal Substances - Alcohol
The IIE is an educational institution and is does not have a liquor license. At no time may alcohol be
served or sold by The IIE’s Varsity College on campus or during a campus recognised event hosted
off campus without an appropriate event specific liquor licence.
Should an event specific liquor license be obtained for The IIE’s Varsity College, it will always adhere
to the scope and provisions of the license.
Please remember that being under the influence of alcohol on any The IIE campuses is prohibited.
Any illegal or unauthorised trade in alcohol products is prohibited on our campuses.

Prescription medication (habit forming medication) not for sale on the open market for the use
intended are not permitted on our campuses. It goes without saying that any trade in prescription
medication is prohibited all on our campuses.
Should you need to keep your prescribed medication on you while on campus, please:

Store it in a safe place on your person
•
All your prescription medication must be in its original packaging, clearly marked, detailing your
name, date of dispensary of the medication, and details of the health care professional who
prescribed the medication

When you are on campus, only have your daily medication dosage with you. All additional
medication must be left at home.

Failure to provide sufficient proof of the above, may result in disciplinary action

being taken against you
