BTEC L3 EXTENDED CERTIFICATE, DIPLOMA & EXTENDED DIPLOMA BTEC L2 EXTENDED FIRST CERTIFICATE 114 WHAT IS BTEC LEVEL 2 HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE? Do you have the desire to work with people in a range of health, social care or educational settings? Are you approachable, willing, trustworthy and enthusiastic? If so, a Level 2 BTEC Extended First Certificate in Health and Social Care may be the course for you! At Level 2 we offer the BTEC Extended First Certificate, which is designed to embed alongside two GCSE resits. For those students resitting one GCSE, they will complete 70 hours placement with clients who receive care and support. The appropriate Level 2 course for you will be confirmed during enrolment. Health & Social Care WHAT WILL YOU STUDY? If you choose to study the BTEC Level 2 course, you will study a range of different units each focusing on different aspects of health and social care. This will include Effective Communication, Human Lifespan Development, Health & Social Care Values and Healthy Living, along with other additional units that may include Individual Rights, Individual Needs, Health and Wellbeing and Nutrition. WHAT IS BTEC L3 HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE? CAREERS • Mental health • Nursing • Social work Health and Social Care is a course for anyone interested in working with people of a variety of ages and in a range of settings. This could range from babies or children, people with special needs or learning difficulties, families and young people, to the elderly. If you have an approachable, trustworthy, enthusiastic and compassionate nature, this course may be for you! This is a bespoke course for those interested in working with people of a variety of ages and in a hospital setting. Learners will be studying the Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care alongside a 2-day placement within the NHS, through Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. NHS Careers Plus is a unique opportunity to work closely with health professionals and a range of client groups. On successful completion of the BTEC First Certificate you may progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or another BTEC Level 3 course offered at the College. Alternatively, you could secure an apprenticeship or training position. WHAT OTHER SUBJECTS GO WELL WITH THIS SUBJECT? GCSE in Maths and/or English Language. DID YOU KNOW? 9 million 999 calls were made to ambulance switchboards in 2014-15. That works out at 24,661 calls a day. WHAT WILL YOU STUDY? As part of the course you will study a range of mandatory and additional units to make up the size of the qualification that you have chosen. Mandatory units include Human Lifespan Development, Working in Health & Social Care, Meeting Individual Care & Support Needs, and Promoting Public Health. As part of the Diploma and Extended Diploma courses you will also get the chance to complete a minimum of 100 placement hours in a range of settings. If you apply for the Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care you will have the opportunity to be considered for the NHS Careers Plus course. Studying Health and Social Care will enable you to progress into Higher Education to pursue many different careers including – Adult, Children or Mental Health Nursing, Radiography, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Public Health Degrees, Midwifery and many more! Alternatively, you may choose to progress into a related apprenticeship or training position, or study another subject at degree level. WHAT OTHER SUBJECTS GO WELL WITH THIS SUBJECT?
