Introduction to Guildford Grammar Preparatory School
Quarters
Students are placed into a Quarter, or faction, upon
entry to the School or when they begin Year 1.
There are four Quarters:
• North (red)
• South (blue)
• East (green)
• West (gold).
The Quarters were established in 1929, to aid
organisation, games and sport for a growing
Preparatory School community. In 2004, we
introduced Quarter banners depicting heraldic
emblems – Lion (North), Dragon (South), Stallion
(East) and Griffin (West).
Quarter spirit is a strong and integral element of
Preparatory School life. Students earn points for
their Quarter in academic, pastoral and sporting
fields with the view to winning the Quarter Shield
and the Quarter Spirit Shield, presented at Prize
Giving in December of each year.
