Introduction to Guildford Grammar Preparatory School Academic Talent Program Early Learning At Guildford Grammar School, we understand that each child is different. Each child needs to learn at a different level and pace. It is not a one size fits all approach. We aim to know and understand our students in many ways so that we can provide the support or extension they require. Early Learning is a unique, important and very exciting time in a young child’s journey. We identify with and value the most influential factors in educating young children. We have refocused on the child. So, when we are working with a developing brain, it is essential to have the right environment: creativity and cognitive action, relationships and movement. These vital ingredients are evident upon entering our centre and continuously developed throughout. Our STRETCH program celebrates the gifts and talents and passions of our students. We recognise individuals who require extension, enrichment or acceleration in different areas and have developed our program to meet these unique needs. Our educators differentiate content, processes, tasks and opportunities. Students can work with like-minded peers, take part in competitions and experience co-curricular programs such as OptiMinds. Our specialist staff work in collaboration with teachers, parents and students to develop their individual profiles so we can challenge, extend and inspire exceptional and personalised learning. Learning Enrichment Our team of specialist teachers and education assistants provide support for students who experience difficulty in their learning, using many different strategies and programs, each one specific to the needs of the child. This allows Guildford Grammar School Early Learners the ability to navigate their individual ‘story’ into the future, using developmentally aligned pedagogies. Staff in the Early Learning Centre are experienced, committed and highly approachable. We realise the importance of ongoing reflection and personal learning to refine and improve practices. We value explicit and intentional instruction and as well as delving deeply into Inquiry practices to ensure learning is meaningful, relevant and transferable. We are guided by the Western Australian Curriculum and Kindergarten Guidelines to plan curriculum and the principles and practices of the Early Years Learning Framework help shape our delivery, methods and practices. 12 Early Learning at Guildford Grammar School stands out because of the approach we take to building the whole child. We strive to provide a balance between learning essential literacy and numeracy academic concepts and purposeful child led opportunities to develop strong personal competencies and capabilities. Therefore, we actively document children’s learning, their competencies, their relationships, their language and their discoveries. We challenge and question as we go. We allow children to have a voice and a personal journey unique to them. We strive for all our Early Learners to be: • Curious Adventurers • Active Discoverers • Skillful Thinkers • Competent Communicators • Independent Reflectors • Respectful Relators • Persistent contributors
