Expanding the Prevention Toolbox PARTNER TOOLKIT As part of NPW, CSAP aims to help those in the prevention field, or anyone working in prevention, access tools and resources they need to accomplish their goals. To that end, the team considers what new products and materials would be helpful to add to our toolbox as we begin planning for NPW each year. This year, we aimed to provide more materials that could benefit prevention efforts by our incredible team of partners. NPW couldn’t be a success without the dedication and enthusiasm of the organizations and agencies that make prevention happen, and we wanted to ensure they have everything they need to conceptualize, plan, and implement their NPW activities—and whatever other prevention efforts they pursue throughout the year. We created the NPW Partner Toolkit for this very purpose. The toolkit—which we shared with partners via DropBox so they could see it as content exclusively for them—comprised three parts: 1. Background information, which covered everything someone might want to know about NPW, the Prevention Challenge, and more; 2. Tools, which included customized copy for different communications methods, information about how to use video and social media to market activities, and help getting in touch with other NPW partners to learn from them; and 3. Graphics such as web badges, social media images, advertisements, other visuals, and a tip sheet to understand how to use all of these graphics. 32 2019 OUTCOMES REPORT By using DropBox to share this with partners, we could continue to add new tools and materials as we developed them, so partners could always be on the lookout for new resources for their own toolbox. Of course, to get people excited about NPW, we had to let them know the details! SAMHSA developed content and designed an array of products that serve different purposes, from save-the-date flyers or graphics to share months before NPW to at-a-glance materials that outline the specific health themes for each day during NPW to social media images such as Facebook frames that people can use before and during NPW to let their followers know that they are #PreventionChampions. From June 2018 to May 2019, there were 11,220 views of the NPW toolkit page at www.samhsa.gov/prevention-week. PLANNING GUIDE AND RESOURCE CALENDAR The National Prevention Week Planning Guide and Resource Calendar was an award-winning resource in 2018, but the team didn’t rest on our laurels when we started developing the 2019 edition. In addition to the features that users have come to expect from these resources—such as information about observances and NPW partners, as well as quarterly planning tips—we asked users what could make the calendar even more helpful for them. We used their feedback to make this year’s version smaller, so it is easier for people to carry around every day and takes up less space on their desk. We supplemented the popular quarterly checklists with tips and resource information throughout the year so users have even more ideas for their prevention efforts. 8,470 CALENDARS REQUESTED & DISTRIBUTED This year’s calendar also featured Augmented Reality (AR), which brought the calendar to life for users and helped them access additional information and resources. By holding their phone over specific spots in the calendar, users could watch a video, open a link to a SAMHSA resource, or enjoy unique animation on the page. Metrics show that there were 432 “Blipps,” or times this content was accessed, between December 2018 and June 2019. Blipp activity reached its peak in December, with 119 Blipps on one day soon after the calendar was released, showing that users were excited to try out this new feature. The NPW 2019 Planning Guide and Resource Calendar received the Award of Excellence from the National Association of Government Communicators’ (NAGC) 2019 Blue Pencil & Gold Screen Awards. For the 2019 awards, there were 249 submissions. 2019 OUTCOMES REPORT 33
