The Power of Video
This year’s promotional video, “This is Prevention. This is Changing
Lives.,” showcased real prevention efforts across the country,
sharing the work of incredible people investing in their communities
and prevention. Three community-based organizations graciously
shared their experiences for the video: ACT Missouri in Jefferson City,
Missouri; Fathers Who Care in Chicago, Illinois; and Mary’s Center in
Washington, DC.
Like other community organizations, schools, governments, local
businesses, and individuals throughout the country, these partners
explained how they are standing up to prevent suicide and misuse
of illegal drugs, opioids, marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol, as well as
promote overall health. They are helping their communities work
harder and smarter, inspiring prevention actions that take root and
grow into real change. They are teaching us that anyone and everyone
can be a part of prevention.
To make the video accessible, SAMHSA posted the video on its
YouTube channel, where it has received nearly 2,900 views since it
was posted. The NPW team also created a customizable version of the
video, giving organizations an opportunity to co-brand the end slate
with their own logo and contact information to align with the national
movement and post on their own social media channels. More than
170 people downloaded the customizable video.
NPW 2019 created new opportunities for video
distribution beyond our usual channels. This year,
working with PSN Media Network, Comcast, and the
National Association of Broadcasters, we reached
thousands of new markets. The team prepared 30-
and 60-second versions of the video for promotion
starting in April for a 13-week run, including during
primetime.
As of July 7, 2019, the video had aired more than
3,400 times in markets all over the U.S., yielding an
estimated 21,437,500 impressions.
