The district encompasses 61 square miles, including the city
of Dickinson, the unincorporated communities of Bacliff and San
Leon, as well as a portion of League City, La Marque and Texas City.
More than $365 million has been invested in district facilities
in the past two decades through five voter-approved bond
issues, the most recent a $70 million bond in 2016.
Ten of the 14 Dickinson ISD school buildings have been
constructed in the past 15 years as either new construction to
accommodate the growing number of students or replacement
facilities for aging campuses. The other four have had
renovations and/or expansions during that same time.
The 2016 bond referendum provided for construction of
Kranz Junior High, which opened in August 2018, and the
new ninth grade center scheduled to open in August 2019 at
Dickinson High School.
The district’s STEM Academy off ers more than 300 students
in grades 5-7 innovative science, technology, engineering
and math instruction. The program, housed at Barber Middle
School and Kranz Junior High, will expand in 2019-2020 to
include eighth grade students.
