HEALTH CARE SUPPLY & DEMAND L eague City is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, with a population exceeding 105,000. With an ever- increasing number of people living and working in the area, the needs for a wide range of health care services is at an all-time high. To meet these needs, some of the largest health care institutions in Southeast Texas have moved into the League City area in the past few years and are continuing to expand their services. The League City Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Galveston Economic Development Partnership, Galveston County and the city of League City are also working to facilitate the expansion of the region’s healthcare marketplace and forge a healthcare and medical innovation ecosystem. University of Texas Medical Branch The University of Texas Medical Branch opened its Galveston teaching hospital in 1891, and it’s been expanding ever since. Today, the UTMB healthcare system stretches across Galveston County, including the UTMB — League City Campus Hospital. The facility began with the opening of the highly successful Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes in 2010, which was expanded and became League City’s first hospital in June 2016. The UTMB — League City Campus Hospital is a 150,000-square-foot, full-service hospital, offering birthing suites, an emergency room with a complete diagnostics lab, 10 operating rooms and more. The healthcare institution is currently working on a $156 million expansion at the League City Campus that will add 60 beds to the hospital.
