Dr. Philip Samaan recently retired from the School of
Religion at Southern Adventist University after 20 years of
service. He was appointed to the Ellen G. White Memorial
Chair in Religion in 2000. Prior to this, he served as chief
editor of the adult Sabbath School lessons at the General
Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and as a professor,
both in the School of Religion and the Theological Semi-
nary, at Andrews University. While at the Seminary, he
served as director of the North American Division Youth Re-
source Center and the Center for Continuing Education for
Ministry. He also directed the Seminary's M.A. in Pastoral
Ministry and the Doctor of Ministry programs. Earlier, Dr.
Samaan served as director of the department of Sabbath
School and Personal Ministries for the Africa-Indian Ocean Division and director of
Youth Outreach and Campus Ministries for the North Pacific Union Conference in North
America. He also pastored and was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1979. He and his
wife, Sherilyn, a music teacher, enjoy traveling and ministry around the world.
