On a day, that wasn‘t in any way different from the other days in Roy’s life, he was thinking of how his life would change if only he had some courage to step out of his comfort zone and be more like the heroes in the movies he had seen or the books he had read. His life would be so much more exciting and enjoyable. Maybe he could even find someone who would finally understand him after so many years of feeling lonely and lost.
This made him remember the Japanese legend of the red string of fate that he had read in one of his books. It has been said in the legend that everyone‘s pinky finger is tied to an invisible red string that will lead him or her to another person they will make history with. Those people are destined to meet each other regardless of time, place or circumstances even though they do not know anything about the existence of each other. The thread can be shrunk, lost, tangled or it can be stretched to infinity but it will never break. To some people the journey through their life looking for another half can be difficult, full of obstacles or even temptation. But this is a bond that is worth searching for. When people find their soul mates, their hearts are joined forever because it is a feeling like none other.
There was time when the legend seemed quite silly to Roy. Now, the thought of knowing that someone might be waiting and looking for him doesn‘t seem so unbelievable after all. It has given him comfort.
What if looking for the unknown person is what he‘s meant to be doing?
