is­largely­missing­these­days,­but­when­you­support­local­agriculture,­you­are supporting­your­neighbors­and­your­town.” Brian­of­Belle­Valley­started­growing­ancient­grains­like­einkorn,­red­fife, emmer­and­spelt­as­a­value-added­source­of­income.­He’s­grown­to­love­their flavor­and­differences­compared­to­modern,­hybridized­wheat.­His­flour­was­used to­make­steam­buns­for­the­dinner,­filled­with­Tom­and­Susan’s­goat­meat­and topped­with­tzatziki­sauce­and­pickled­Cedar­Creek­red­onions. In­addition­to­the­dinner­ingredients,­there­were­gift­bags­for­each­of­the­at- tendees,­overflowing­with­more­locally-sourced­products.­ Lynne­Loverich­of­Rockerville­was­one­of­the­40­attendees.­She­is­a­former SDSPA­board­member­and­a­current­local­producer. “Even­if­we­can­provide­for­one­to­five­families­from­our­small­acreage,­we’re providing­something,”­she­said.­“It’s­a­challenge­for­small­producers­to­make­a living,­but­it’s­great­to­see­both­how­far­the­SDSPA­has­come­and­how­far­it’s bringing­its­member­producers.­It­was­great­to­sit­next­to­producers­and­other local­foodies,­creating­meaningful­connections,­laughing,­talking,­dreaming.” Erin­Aulner­also­attended­the­dinner­and­looked­forward­to­learning­about local­producers­so­she­could­buy­more­locally.­She’d­heard­of­Belle­Valley­about a­year­ago­and­was­excited­to­sample­some­of­their­product­at­both­the­dinner­and in­the­goodie­bag.
