2019 GSSNE CAMP GUIDE 2019 Camp Guide FINAL pdf | Page 2
LETTER FROM OUR CEO
• Display positive values She’ll come to have
Dear Caregivers,
Girl Scout summer camp…it brings back such
amazing childhood memories for me! I hope
you hold a fondness in your heart as you think
of the memories made in your
youth. How exciting that you
and your Girl Scout (or soon to
be Girl Scout) can now enjoy
mapping out memories for
summer 2019!
Although warmer weather
seems like it’s far away, we
publish the GSSNE Camp
Guide in December because we
know that families have already
started making their summer plans. What
better time to dream of warm and sunny days
than when it’s cold and snowy?
Girl Scout programs are special any time of
year, but in my experience, camp provides one
of the best opportunities to flourish and reap
the benefits of Girl Scouting. At GSSNE Girl Scout
Camp, your Girl Scout will:
• Develop a stronger sense of self
She’ll feel pride in navigating her “home away
from home”—learning that she’s got what it
takes to be independent! She’ll also try many
new things that she’ll delight in mastering!

a greater respect for the natural world as she
goes exploring among the trees! Imagine
how she develops a greater appreciation for
the importance of respecting others while
moving through the woods together.
• Seek challenges and learn resilience
Think of how she’ll feel when her arrow
hits the target in archery or maneuvers
successfully in the water while swimming
or boating. Maybe she won’t at first feel
comfortable with a new experience like
the ropes course or teaching her unit a
new song, but imagine her growth as she
tries and eventually succeeds!
• Form and maintain healthy
relationships Imagine the friendships
she’ll make at camp! I know women,
including myself, who still maintain
friendships formed at Girl Scout Camp!
These are the friendships that last because
they are real!
• Learn to identify and solve problems in
her camp community Negotiating group
norms especially with girls of differing
needs can be challenging, but once your girl
learns how to respect herself and others by
negotiating kapers (camp chores) or getting
up with her buddy in the night, she’ll take
the skill through life!
This Camp Guide is chocked full of fun
programs built to unleash your girl’s inner
G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker,
Leader) ™.
Go-getter: Try an overnight program
at Overnight Camp or Summer Outdoor
Series.
Innovator: Participate in STEM activities at
Day or Overnight Camp.
Risk-taker: Take on the high ropes course
or rock wall.
Leader: Harness leadership skills by
joining fun teen leadership programs.
We can’t wait to see what you and your
girl decide to try…and we’ll be with you
both every step of the way to support her
summer journey!
Yours in Girl Scouting,
