By promoting the event through email and social media, web traffic during the week reached 3,836 people and the daily emails were opened 10,344 times. Recognizing Community-Based Efforts Each year, communities across the nation, including SAMHSA-funded system of care communities, host local Awareness Day events to elevate awareness about the importance of children’s mental health. These communities leverage the Awareness Day observance to position their organizations as leaders in building awareness about mental health services, challenging negative perceptions, and changing people’s attitudes and behaviors toward mental health challenges. Awareness Day 2019 was widely celebrated across the country, with governors from Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, and Wisconsin issuing proclamations recognizing May 9, 2019, as National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. The following local highlights provide a sample of the diverse Awareness Day 2019 celebrations held by SAMHSA-funded systems of care.
