Screen Printing for Teens

CONCEPT : Express yourself through art and learn the fundamentals of screen printing in this hands-on printmaking workshop , designed specifically for teens . Use multiple screen printing techniques to make exciting works on paper , unique posters and original t-shirts . Students design images , squeegee ink through mesh screens and learn multiple-color registration . Walk away from this workshop with a variety of new printmaking skills , t-shirts and posters for friends , family and your growing portfolio .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use water-based screen printing inks , digital halftones and drawing fluid to make t-shirts , original prints and posters . Watercolor monotype is introduced as an additional technique to incorporate into prints .
ACTIVITIES : Each day we design , draw and print , building from single-color prints to more complex , multicolor prints . Group discussions , slide lectures and examples from Anderson Ranch Editions give an historical and holistic understanding of screen printing in pop culture . Emphasis is on active work and experimentation .
FACULTY : Josh Meier received a B . F . A . from the University of Kansas and attended the New York Studio School of Drawing , Painting and Sculpture summer session . He is the recipient of a Hollander Family Foundation Grant and his work has been featured in New American Paintings .

Photography for Teens

CONCEPT : Explore the visual language of images and nurture your passion for photography through an atmosphere of exploration , practice and play in this dynamic workshop . Examine how great photographs engage us visually , emotionally and intellectually . Improve your image-making abilities by focusing on both the technical aspects of a photograph and the ideas behind it while working on projects such as storytelling , the environment , and digital image creation using Adobe Photoshop . Learn more about your digital camera as we discuss techniques that allow you to take better and more unique photos . We edit in Adobe Photoshop , retouch photos , and discover ways to combine , blend and mix photographs together . We also view and discuss important photographs from the past and present .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use a digital camera with manual exposure capabilities and a tripod , and Adobe Photoshop to edit , process and combine images . In this workshop we photograph outside in the natural environment , on Anderson Ranch , in the studio with controlled lighting , and on green screen .
ACTIVITIES : We learn digital camera functions , shooting skills and image processing . Students increase their knowledge of contemporary photography with inclass demonstrations , hands-on computer instruction , and daily indoor and outdoor shooting projects .
FACULTY : Conor King received his M . F . A . from Pratt Institute . He has been a member of the art faculty at several colleges and universities since 2009 , including the University of Colorado . He has shown his work nationally and internationally , has been a resident artist at RedLine Denver , and served on the board at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center , where he also assisted with exhibition development . Conor is a founding member of Tank Studios , where his studio is currently located .

Drawing from Life for Teens

CONCEPT : Hone your drawing skills and add exciting work to your growing portfolio in this teen-specific workshop designed to teach young artists not only how to draw recognizable objects , but to develop new ways of seeing the world . We focus on the most basic design elements including line , composition , color , scale and perspective . Working from a still life , live model , and the landscape , students learn a variety of methods to enhance fundamental drawing skills and to build a strong and dynamic portfolio of original drawings . Working mostly from observation , we explore a wide range of media and subject matter to produce several finished drawings throughout the week .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Using traditional drawing materials including graphite , charcoal and ink , we work with elements of scale and proportion in a variety of experiments and exercises to develop works on paper . Students also explore alternative drawing materials and collage materials later in the week .
ACTIVITIES : Demonstrations are followed by hands-on experimentation . Each day includes group discussions , drawing demonstrations , exercises , one-on-one help and plenty of time to draw in the studio .
