children’s workshops
At Anderson Ranch, we believe in the power of place, which
is why our children’s workshops celebrate an indoor-outdoor
atmosphere with open workspaces that capitalize on the inspiring
environment around us. Over the years, many of our young artists
have returned time and again; many of their children now attend
our fun and exciting programs.
Students spend their days in the Evelyn and Martin Siegel Building,
equipped with two studio spaces, a magical supply closet stocked
full of essential art-making supplies and tools, an electric kiln,
laptop computers, video and sound equipment, and a children’s
library. Sliding doors open to a wraparound front porch, marble
slabs in the front yard are plein-air desks, and shady picnic tables
offer an inviting lunch spot.
The children’s program draws engaging regional and national guest
faculty to Anderson Ranch—deeply experienced art educators
who are also artists. Workshops range from material-based and
traditional artistic disciplines to interdisciplinary technology,
animation, robotics and video. With a small student-to-staff ratio,
each child is supported to explore, imagine and develop new ways
of thinking and developing creative perspectives.
We frequently take mini field trips providing students with
the opportunity to experience the supportive Anderson Ranch
community, visit the studios, and see artists at work. Young artists
also display their art to family, friends and fans on Fridays in the
Children’s Art Show.
