This workshop takes a captivating step back in art history to examine FACULTY: the madcap era in Southern California that cultivated the thriving cultural scene author of Rebels in Paradise: The Los Angeles Art Scene and the 1960s, Sensual of today, focusing on icons like Andy Warhol, Frank Gehry, the Beach Boys, and Mechanical: The Art of Craig Kauffman and Full Bloom: The Life and Art of Dennis Hopper. We also explore the significant and influential development of the Georgia O’Keeffe and conducts interviews for the Archives of American Art. use of collage and assemblage as an alternative to traditional painting or sculpture by taking a look at African American artists like Noah Purifoy and women like Alexis Smith and Betye Saar. Using these and other techniques, the program explores L.A.’s unique history and the ways in which its artists produced their work. MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Roy Dowell is Chair of the MFA Fine Arts Program at the Otis College of Art and Design. Solo exhibitions include the Fawbush, Curt Marcus and Lennon/ Weinberg Galleries in New York and at the Rosamund Felsen, Margo Leavin and Tif Sigfrids Galleries in Los Angeles and the James Harris Gallery in Seattle.
