No maximum weight but due to discount weight prices it is recommended pigs stay below 280 lbs. Champion and Reserve Champion Pig-of Merit will compete for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Market Individual. Pigs-of-Merit/Performance Pen of Three will be placed live and awarded ribbon only. Pig-of-Merit classes will be divided by beginning weights. Premiums and trophies for the Pig-of-Merit and Performance Pen of Three contests will be announced during the fair. Commercial Gilt 1. Each exhibiter can select one gilt they bring to the fair to participate in the commercial gilt class. 2. This is a separate class and the gilt will be allowed to show in any other class at the fair as long as it follows the regular guidelines 3. This would allow 4-H members and FFA students an opportunity to show a gilt twice. 4. Gilts will be exhibited according to weight and limit to no more than three classes. Exam- ple: light, medium or heavyweight. 5. The commercial gilt will be judged on soundness, underline quality, confirmation, and maternal qualities to produce a practical market hog in the swine industry. All gilts must have at least a 6-6 underline. 6. If more than one class, the top two in each class would come back to compete for the grand and reserve champion commercial gilt. Purebred Market Pig 1. An exhibiter can show up to two purebred market hogs at the fair. 2. Purebred pigs can be registered in a family name, 4-H or FFA member’s name, or can have a signed transfer on original papers stating when the pig was purchased. Original papers need to be presented at the fair during Tuesday weigh-in. 3. If a specific breed has more than 4 pigs, they will show in a separate class. Any breed with under 4 individuals would be combined into one class with the other breeds. 4. If more than one class, the top two in each class will come back to compete for grand and reserve champion purebred market pig. 5. Purebred pigs would be able to participate for the grand and reserve champion overall Market Pig. 6. Purebred pigs are eligible for the market pen of 3 classes. Pig Pal Program 1.
