WINTER 2018
s I sit at this computer screen writing
my last President’s Message to you,
I am flooded with memories and
emotions. I am still amused by those that
think the president is a PAID position. It
is not. That the President lives in Alvarado
and checks into the office every Monday
morning, NOPE again, and that the
President lives some glamorous life with
“special” benefits, no again. As a side note,
I DO actively own horses- contrary to some
peoples thoughts. I gave three years of my
life to the leadership of AMHA, three very
trying hard years that often showed me what
I was really made of. I am not a fighter.
However, I tried desperately to always take
a firm stand against wrongdoing, cheating,
and unethical behavior. All the while
encouraging and supporting the good that
is the heart of AMHA. I worked relentlessly
for the Amateur in particular; giving them
ownership of this association and leading
them to step up and take care of it.
There are many weighty issues and decisions
to face this association in the future. If we
are to remain a membership run association,
then it is absolutely vital that the members
be involved in the growth and welfare of
this mothership. You ALL must do your
part. One person, whose hands are often
tied, cannot do it alone. I hope you all
realized this as I reached out time and
time again to all enthusiasts. YOU are
important!
It has been my distinct pleasure to
work with some absolutely outstanding
individuals with knowledge, history and a
passion that have helped propel us through
many changes and advancements. To those
people, I extend sincere gratitude. There
are those extraordinary relationships of
friendship that have come out of all this that
I so treasure, people that I hold near and
dear to my heart. I am so blessed by these
people!
I thank the office staff: Alison, Quintin,
Pam, Brenda, Marsha, Val, Nan, and Melissa
for always being so easy to work with,
understanding and doing their best for us
all. I started as friends with many of these
and feel strongly that I leave this position
with even a stronger relationship. Thank
you!
I have many people over this time reach
out and offer words of encouragement,
the listening ear, the notes, the emails, the
messages, the telephone calls. You kept me
going and strong. We often get bogged
down and overwhelmed with those that
wish to be negative and caught up in ill
doings, but when you have the support
system that I have had, it is easy to see the
light, the good, the future. Thank you is
more than merely inadequate.
Now, I need to try to slip out of this
position gracefully, find “Joe,” and get back
into the real world if you will. I’m ready to
get back in the ring, prepared to stay up late
and laugh and tell stories in the barn aisles.
I’m ready to get my music studio built back
up where it needs and should be. I need
to reassert myself into that passion and first
love in my life of making music, and sharing
that with others. It has most certainly taken
a backseat to my duties with AMHA.
I have written on many occasions about
“HOPE.” Now I close in saying I Hope
that as I am leaving this position of
President, I am leaving AMHA with a
brighter and better and stronger HOPE
for the future. That was always my intent,
always an integral piece of my passion,
always a strong motivation for my relentless
efforts. Keep “Hope” alive, and we will
continue to flourish.
I wish God’s Richest Blessings to each of
you! He has blessed us richly with the
Miniature Horse, an indescribable little
animal that is difficult for us even to explain.
Truly a “horse for everyone.” It is our duty
to be good stewards of this special gift He
has given us.
Sincerely and humbly,
