that would produce offspring with higher neck sets, coming clean out of the shoulder, natural top lines and pretty heads, with good balance. In 2005 we had an opportunity to breed a mare to Alvadars Double Destiny who was siring some outstanding offspring, and we jumped at the chance. I asked his owner John Eberth if he would stop by and pick out one of my broodmares he thought would best match Destiny. John picked out Cadle Creeks Miss Priss, a beautiful Palomino pinto mare we had. The resulting colt was everything we could have hoped for in a stallion! A beautiful Perlino colt, with all the attributes we hoped for. We named him Ten Ls Destinys in the Buff. He was not only easy on the eyes but also such a gentle soul, who loves attention from people and even one of our cats who likes to sit on his back! But the question remained: could a Perlino colored stallion show and win? He most certainly did! Ten Ls Destinys in the Buff won over 20 Supreme Halter or Champion of Champions awards. In 2014, Buff won the World Champion Get of Sire class. A feat that I never dreamed we could accomplish, as we are not a huge farm and could only advertise a limited amount. Thank you to Danielle Hill for setting up the horses for the Get of Sire Class, showing three gorgeous buckskins by Buff. It was indeed a dream come true! Buff went on to sire a very high percentage of offspring that won World and Reserve World Champion offspring, and his success as a sire of champions continues to present day. The crosses between Ten Ls Tigers Legacy’s daughters to Buff have also proven fantastic. THE FUTURE FOR TEN L FARM Our goal is to continue to strive to breed and show excellent horses! We feel that the best is yet to come in producing some of the very best show prospects in the next few years, in both halter and performance. I’ve kept two foals from each year’s foal crop to use for our breeding program. We also have some new crosses with Buff and Legacy, plus four additional stallions: JSW Zorros Turn On The Heat, co-owned with Belinda and Rob Harter, Our Farms Lil Commander (a black triple), Aloha Acres Silent Safari, and TOMF Minute Man, co- owned with JSW Farm. The last four years we’ve foaled out 35 to 45 foals per year with a high percentage of live births, using breeder alerts, cameras and just solid good experience that comes from foaling out hundreds of foals. Our son, B.J. TENNILL, has been a great help in assisting with foaling out mares as well. In 1992 Joe retired from the police force to start a small courier service which he still runs today. He has always helped me tremendously with many aspects of our Miniature horse farm which has allowed me to achieve my life’s dream! We are proud to see so many Ten L horses doing well in the show ring and as breeding stock. The KMHB (KentuckyMiniature HorseBreeders.org) has been an excellent incentive program that awards money per point earned by kmhb nominated horses. Money can be earned per point at any AMHA show at any location. Horses who are eligible for this program have to be AMHA registered, bred and born in Kentucky from nominated sires and dams. Since our farm is located in Kentucky, all of our AMHA horses bred, born and nominated here qualify for the KMHB Incentive. Ten Ls Destiny in the Buff’s get have already earned over $150,000 in the KMHB Incentive program. W I N T E R 2018 Miniature Horse World 67
