THERE’S SOMETHING IN THE WAY
Amanda Boulos, Round the Rouche We Go, 2015
Substitution and transformation are utilized as a way to confront missing memories
due to forced migration. Using found footage of two different men from two different
eras attempting to travel around the exact same Rouche (a natural monument in
Beirut), Boulous’ work frames the actions as a metaphor for ‘the confusion that
surrounded the Lebanese Civil War.’
Liz Knox, Something in the way,
2015
Composed of text found online of a
fan’s interpretation of the Nirvana
song of the same name, Knox’s work
considers translation as a way to
frame the personal and the distances
between the popular and the intimate.
