Jenny Wollerman soprano
Jenny Wollerman is one of New Zealand’s best
known sopranos and is Senior Lecturer in Classical
Voice at Victoria University’s NZ School of Music.
After studying at the Curtis Institute of Music in
Philadelphia, then Banff Centre, Canada and
Britten-Pears School in England, she returned to
pursue her career in Australasia. A soloist with the all
the major organisations in New Zealand, Australian
performances
have
included
Lutoslawski’s
‘Chantefleurs et Chantefables’ with the Tasmanian
Symphony and Ravel’s ‘Shéhérazade’ song cycle
with the West Australian and Adelaide Symphony orchestras.
She is noted for her expressive interpretations of new and less familiar works and
has given many performances of works by New Zealand composers. In 2014 she
was soloist for Anthony Ritchie’s ‘Stations’: Symphony No. 4 with the Christchurch
Symphony, the recording of which was nominated for MusicWeb International’s
2015 ‘Recording of the Year’.
Other recent performances include Villa-Lobos’s ‘Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5’
at the 2017 Adam Chamber Music Festival, ‘Fragments from Wozzeck’ with the
Auckland Philharmonia, Ross Harris’s ‘The Floating Bride’ with NZ Symphony
Orchestra, Jenny McLeod’s opera ‘Hohepa’ for NZ Opera and NZ Festival, and
Karl Jenkins’ ‘Cantata Memoria’. ‘Between Darkness and Light’, her CD with
Michael Houstoun, has featured on the Air New Zealand in-flight play list, and a
new recording of song cycles by Ross Harris and Vincent O’Sullivan, Making Light
of Time, was released by Atoll in 2017.
Jarvis Dams baritone
Originally from Belgium, Jarvis has lived in New
Zealand for 18 years. A 2014 - 2015 NZ Opera Dame
Malvina Major Emerging Artist. Jarvis holds a Master
of Music and Bachelor’s degree from The University
of Waikato and was a recipient of the University
of Waikato Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship for
performance and leadership. Jarvis has also been
very successful in competitions, in 2016 he was
selected as a finalist in the IFAC Australian Singing
Competition and in 2017 was the winner of the
New Zealand Aria Competition in Rotorua. Jarvis
was also selected as one of six singers to be a part of the inaugural Dame Kiri Te
Kanawa Foundation Development Programme for promising young singers and
gratefully acknowledges their support.
