The eastern states – and particularly New South Wales
and Victoria – are at the start of a tremendous wave in
land transport investment, as shown in Figure 1.5, which
is being supercharged by asset recycling strategies and
strong growth in own source revenues from property
taxes (in turn driven by robust increases in population
growth). This boom in land transport infrastructure
investment is drawing in resources from other states that
will create its own challenges as other states begin to
increase their own infrastructure investment.
