THE MAYOR
66
Shelbyville is a fantastic place to live and work. As
Mayor, I feel it is my job to help to improve the quality
of services that the City provides to its residents and
visitors alike. Additionally, we as members of the
community, should continue to work together with
the leaders of our retail, service, industry, schools and
various service organizations so that we can help
Shelbyville and Shelby County continue to grow and
prosper.
The City of Shelbyville considers the Shelby County
Chamber of Commerce a valuable partner in
community and economic development efforts.
The Chamber is a great mechanism for maintaining
contact with our existing business and industry
partners as well as a very useful resource when talking
to potential new investors in the community. Julie and
her staff have proven time and again their worth and
value to the community.
TOM DEBAUN
Mayor
Mayor Tom DeBaun spent 18 years as the Director of
Planning for the City of Shelbyville. He was involved in
nearly every project in Shelbyville. “I was able to see
things that were done well, things that were not done
well and that were not done at all.” At the end of his 18
years, DeBaun took his experience and ran for Mayor of
Shelbyville. As mayor, DeBaun has many goals for the City
of Shelbyville and is well on his way to making those goals
realities.
Mayor DeBaun plans to continue to work on the way
Shelbyville’s units of local government work – bringing
them together. He has made education in Shelbyville a
priority by creating partnerships with local organizations
and businesses and developing additional education
opportunities for our students and adults seeking additional
training.
