3 4 In September, the City experienced a severe weather event that caused flooding across the City. Twenty-one areas within the City reported high water conditions. The Fire Department responded to a vehicle that was stranded and had been trapped by high water on the culvert crossing at North White Chapel Blvd. Our Department along with the swift water rescue team from Haltom City successfully completed a water rescue of a Southlake family, preventing the loss of 3 lives. The Office of Emergency Management enhanced community preparedness by completing the Hazard Vulnerability Analysis for the City of Southlake. A hazard identification and risk assessment provides the areas of focus for emergency management plans and City resilience factors. An effective risk assessment informs proposed actions by focusing attention and resources on the greatest risks. The four basic components of a risk assessment are: 1) hazard identification, 2) profiling of hazard events, 3) inventory of assets, and 4) estimation of potential human and economic losses based on the exposure and vulnerability of people, buildings, and infrastructure. "The Department's Commitment to Excellence is a cultural mindset and a lifelong commitment to becoming the best possible professional department while providing superior customer service."
