First Grade Learn About Fire Safety

By Megyn McCarthy

The Burke Elementary First Grade students talked to the Burke Volunteer Fire Department and learned important information about fire safety. The students learned the importance of having a meeting spot with their family to plan for emergencies such as a fire.

The students also learned skills such as reading and writing in class. They have been getting 100% most every week for spelling, and practice on their reading every day. The students also learned fact fluency by knowing addition and subtraction facts.

Burke Elementary Visits Pumpkin Patch

By Megyn McCarthy

The Burke Elementary Students embrace fall activities! Students participated in their annual visit to the Swift Family pumpkin patch. They visited on October 24. Patience Swift welcomed the group with a short presentation and answered any questions. The students were able to pick out two of their own pumpkins to take home to their family. The only stipulation was that they had to carry both of their choices without help.

A special thanks goes to Jack Broome and Elton Serr for driving the buses! Classes also made fall inspired art projects that are hung up in the hallway.
