Burke Cougars Qualify Eight for State

The Cougar Cross Country Team traveled to Freeman on October 11 to compete in the Region 3B Meet. The places were Jackson Liewer 4th, Washake Vaughn 15th, Keith Hoffman 20th, Nick Nelson 23rd, Lacey Person 15th, Jolene Vaughn 11th, Bridget Bartling 21st, Brecken Bolander 17th, Piper Hanson 8th. The girls team placed 2nd, and the boys team placed 4th.

Liewer Places Sixth at State Cross Country Meet

The Cougar Cross Country Team traveled to Sioux Falls on October 20 to compete in the class B race. Jackson Liewer placed 6th, Washake Vaughn placed 84th, and Keith Hoffman placed 110th. The boys' team placed 15th overall. For the girls, Piper Hanson placed 31st, Jolene Vaughn placed 38th, Brecken Bolander placed 72nd, Lacey Person placed 93rd, and Bridget Bartling placed 98th. The girls' team placed 10th.
The times were Jackson Liewer, 17:19; Washake Vaughn, 19:21; Keith Hoffman, 20:43; Piper Hanson, 20:58; Jolene Vaughn, 21:17; Brecken Bolander, 22:22; Lacey Person, 23:10; and Bridget Bartling, 23:39.
"You know, I have to say, it's easier to run a 5k and almost die trying than to come up with an original, witty, short, hard hitting, and easily carried into the future generations quote. So, worst case scenario you crawl," stated Jackson Liewer.
