The Fifth Grade started a new unit in math during the month of January. The unit was all about fractions. They modeled the addition and subtraction using fraction models. According to Fifth Grade teacher Mrs. Karbo, the students really enjoyed the hands on approach.

The Fourth Grade was hard at work during the month of January. They completed their "Snowman Stories" which are in the elementary hallway and the Treasurer's Office at the courthouse for anyone to view.

The class explored fractions in math and possessive nouns in English. They also studied homophones, and in Science they learned about lunar eclipses. The students observed the lunar eclipse that took place on January 20.

The 3rd Grade class took on some extra duties this month by pitching in on lunchroom clean up. Students wanted to do something extra to help our school, and to continue to take pride in the cleanliness of our building. Through a brainstorming session, 3rd graders decided to help out in the lunchroom. So beginning in January, students are taking turns washing down tables and chairs, as well as cleaning up the garbage and leftover milk cartons on the tables. They love what they are doing, and this small project has made them more aware of what it takes to clean up after 100 kids have devoured their school lunches.

Mrs. Frank’s Comment: “I am beyond proud and humbled by the work ethic these youngsters have shown in this daily volunteer project. Seeing them take pride in their school makes my heart smile.”
