The Burke School held their annual Veterans Day program on November 12. The program started at 2:00 and included performances by the high school band and choir and elementary classes.

After the posting of the flag, the Burke High School All-State Quartet (Kaleb Wells, Sammy Bull, Haley Benter, and Allie Stangle) sang the National Anthem. Principal, Tim Sanderson gave the welcome, and then the High School Band played "Call to the Heroes" under the direction of Rachelle Stephens.

The 6th Grade class then read a poem followed by the reading of Patriot Pen essays by Matthew Jons and Ava Hausmann. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades, under the direction of Pat Thiry, then sang "A Grateful Nation" and "God Bless the USA."

After the elementary, the High School Choir performed "Armed Forces Medley" under the direction of Rachelle Stephens. Superintendent, Erik Person then introduced the speaker, Tom Culver, the superintendent of the Avon School District. The program ended with Taps being played by Taylor even and Bridget Bartling.

The Burke FCCLA Chapter encouraged students to participate in a stress relief activity for National Family Month. The chapter came up with the idea that every chapter member should make a meal for their family during the month of November.

The purpose is to take some of the stress off of parents or guardians by giving them a night where they don't have to worry about cooking. The FCCLA Chapter also wanted the family to have a sit-down meal because most households don't eat together anymore.

"This is a great opportunity for the families to engage in a conversation over a home-cooked meal. It will be good for the members to take the stress away from their parents. We will have an activity each month for everyone to participate in. Hope to see lots of pictures of the monthly activities!" stated FCCLA Chapter President, Erika Van Nieuwenhuyse.
