CONCEPT : Discover the colorful world of fimo clay , and experiment with the many different techniques this engaging medium has to offer ! We work with the clay while it ’ s soft , combining different colors with twisting , bending and cutting techniques to make beautiful marbled surfaces . Then students learn how to form the clay into beads , ideal for trinkets and charms . We even take time to craft small figures and bowls . After we shape our clay , we bake our pieces in a small oven , hardening them for everyday use . Students experiment with cutting , painting and sanding the hardened pieces for unique after-effects . The artistic possibilities are endless with this bright and fun clay form !
SHERRI KUECKER received her Masters in Education and School Counseling from Lamar University in Texas . She has taught students of all ages for the past 22 years and currently teaches at the Heritage Academy in Arizona . Sherri formerly worked as the Children ’ s Program Coordinator at Anderson Ranch Arts Center .
CONCEPT : Dive deep into the world of comics and art zines ! We begin by taking a look at different examples of comics and alternative publications to better understand the techniques of graphic art . Students then develop their own storylines and characters in comic book fashion using pencils and sharpies . After our final drawings are complete , we learn how to transfer , carve and print our illustrations using Soft Kut linoleum blocks . Students print multiple editions of an enlarged comic illustration , and master the art of block printing while also developing their drawing , collage and simple bookbinding skills . We work with bright inks , quality paper and bold taglines to make our comics extra expressive .
AMI MAES is the Founder and Creative Director of HANDMAKERY : A Children ’ s Art Studio , located in beautiful Carbondale , Colo ., which focuses on inspiring , expressing and creating art with children . For the past 20 years , she has instructed workshops at Anderson Ranch Arts Center and throughout the Roaring Fork Valley , and is the recipient of the Mary Ellen Nix Excellence in Art Teaching Award through the Aspen Art Museum . Ami also currently instructs visual arts at the middle school level in Carbondale , Colo .
CONCEPT : Explore one of the most exciting emerging technologies of our time , and get a glimpse into the future of artistic endeavours ! In this fascinating workshop , students use two different kinds of modeling programs and 3-D scanners and printers to delve into the possibilities of this technology as a tool for other work and as an art making process all its own . We start with simple hand building to bridge the gap from the physical to the digital world . Then we scan objects into the computers and print them out . We dive into the programs making a variety of projects , from furniture to animals to architecture to abstract sculpture ! Because of the open nature of the medium , each student has ample opportunity to explore your own ideas and directions . At the end of the course , we celebrate with a group show of our work !
