SKILL LEVEL : I - II
CONCEPT : Unlock your creativity by tapping into the full potential of your favorite pocket photography tool — your iPhone . In this dynamic workshop students learn camera shooting and editing techniques , including an exploration of available apps and app stacking with an Apple device . We also cover best practices for sharing media online , as well as the wide variety of output options . This comprehensive course explores how the iPhone can be used in projects that include prints , books , documentaries , installations and mixed-media art .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use their iPhone or iPad to create images and videos . The course focuses on shooting , editing , sharing and printing images created with these devices . Time is spent on discovering and using apps to create unique and compelling media .
ACTIVITIES : The workshop includes daily field trips , studio time to edit and process images , and discussions .
FACULTY : Jonathan Laurence is the Creative Director of the Center for Maine Contemporary Art Creative . He is a multimedia designer , consultant and educator who has worked internationally with a diverse range of companies , organizations and individuals . Jonathan has served as Media Director to the Camden International Film Festival for more than 10 years , and also leads digital media and creativity workshops at a variety of institutions and art centers around the world .

SKILL LEVEL : I - II
CONCEPT : Focus on exactly what you need to know to creatively edit and organize your photographs in Adobe Lightroom . In this detailed workshop , students discover the best ways to manage photographs in Adobe Lightroom ’ s library module — an elemental organizational skill for any passionate photographer . Then take control of the user-friendly editing tools in Lightroom ’ s develop module . You leave this workshop understanding an efficient workflow that saves time and helps bring out the best in your photographs .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use digital cameras with manual exposure capabilities and Adobe Lightroom to import , edit and print images .
ACTIVITIES : This is a hands-on class in which you follow along with your instructor as you learn the essentials of editing and photo management in Lightroom . Step-by-step tutorials are supplemented by in-class demonstrations about storing , importing and organizing photographs , adjusting color and tone , sharpening , noise reduction , retouching , and creatively enhancing your photographs . In-class activities are complemented by shooting field trips to some of the Rocky Mountains ’ most beautiful areas . After shooting , you learn to process your images and create prints of your photos .
FACULTY : Jan Kabili is a photographer , author and educator . She has authored 42 Photoshop and Lightroom courses on the popular training website www . lynda . com . Jan currently works for Adobe , where she is in charge of the Photoshop and Lightroom tutorials on the Adobe website adobe . com . Her latest book is Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop for Photographers Classroom in a Book , Adobe Press 2014 . Jan received her M . F . A . in photography from the University of Colorado , Boulder , and is a graduate of Stanford University and Stanford Law School .
SKILL LEVEL : III - IV
CONCEPT : Fine tune your passion project in this intensive week-long workshop that provides guidance on a particular project . Through group discussions and one-on-one critiques , we focus on a variety of important topics , including research and / or production of a long-term project , editing and sequencing of existing material , writing a personal reflection or artist statement , envisioning future forms for the project , and whether publication or exhibition is the best avenue . Attention to the specific projects is balanced by conversations about professional practice and the broader industry .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : We learn through presentations , discussions , critiques and editing of work .
ACTIVITIES : We participate in editing and review sessions , group reviews of each student ’ s portfolio / essays and one-on-one sessions with the instructor to discuss personal projects . We also discuss career advice or the promoting and publishing of work .
FACULTY : Whitney Johnson is the Deputy Director of Photography at National Geographic . Prior to joining National Geographic , she was the Director of Photography at The New Yorker , where her work was widely recognized , earning awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors , Awards of Excellence from the Society of Publication Designers , and a Peabody .
