By the end of the school year , the goal is to have all members prepared and competent if they should come across a potentially dangerous situation . SENIOR BOOK CLUB Moderator : Ms . Adkins Eligibility : Accepting seniors until the last meeting , which will then be open to juniors interested in continuing the club for their senior year . Requirements : Purchase / borrow the selected novels and attend the meetings . You must also be willing to have an open mind to all types of literature , and express your view of the novel to others . Goals & Objectives : To read a diverse selection of novels chosen by student members while exploring different authors and their techniques . Students learn how to critique a piece of literature in a group setting , and how to accept and understand another ’ s point of view . Outside / After school activities : Read the selected book by the due date . Meetings : E103 , Club Lunch 3
SISTERS IN CULTURAL UNITY ( SICU ) Moderator : Ms . O ’ Neal Eligibility : Open to all SUA students interested in promoting sisterhood and awareness of African and African American history and culture . Requirements : Must be willing to attend after school meetings 1-2x / month and participate in group activities . Members are expected to volunteer , mentor and assist with activities for the Young Women ’ s Institute student activities ( 6 th -8 th grade leadership program at SUA ) hosted throughout the academic year . Goals & Objectives : Our organization ’ s mission is to celebrate and bring awareness of African and African American culture and achievement through art , history , presentation and education . Outside / After school activities : African Culture fest at Museum Center , Martin Luther King Breakfast , NAACP Dinner , Dada Rafiki Gifts Conference , volunteer opportunities and various other field trips . Meetings : Ms . O ’ Neal ’ s office , special schedule to be shared with members .
SKI CLUB Moderators : Ms . Baker Eligibility : Open to all SUA students who like snow ; who want to learn to ski , snowboard or tube , or who already ski , snowboard , or tube down the slopes . Requirements : There are no meetings to attend , except the first one ! Goals / Objectives : The SUA Ski Club has been developed in order to encourage students who enjoy skiing or want to learn , as well as encourage friendships , fellowship and fun during the winter months . Ski passes are offered to club members at a discounted rate from Perfect North Slopes . Any friends or family members outside of SUA are permitted to purchase passes through our club . We will announce the web location and password to the club members so they can make their desired purchases online . Throughout the winter months we organize carpools and meet at the Perfect North Slopes . Members can choose to attend on those dates as well as use their passes weekly on their own . After school : All ski trips to Perfect North will be after school or on weekends – join us for some or all events ! Meeting : E304 , Club Lunch 1
