Human

In order to be human,

We must first accept that others are human as well.

So, let me bleed your blood.

Let it bounce off the freshly fallen snow until they see we are equal.

Let our Red coat the town in acceptance.

Let our contrast become love.

Because I am your family.

See, Michael Brown? He was my brother.

Charleena Lyles? My sister.

Their spilled blood came from my heart.

Let us hold each other steady until the guns stop shaking our core.

Let the White House flag turn ROY G. BIV.

Let my neighbor’s hijab preach Black Lives Matter.

Let the little black boy from Ferguson stop hiding from the police.

See Michael Brown was his brother, too.

Our throats are not their footrests.

We will scream our story until our voice is all they can hear.

We will run laps around their prejudice until our strength is enough to break it down.

Their preconception is chilling

But our love runs 98.6

And the ice doesn’t stand a chance.
