Christine Kegley Crockett of Galax , Virginia passed away Saturday , April 15 , 2017 at home after a brief illness . She was born on April 1 , 1925 , the daughter of Paul and LIla Todd Shores , both deceased . Christine was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Galax and an employee of the Carnation Company for many years . Along with Robert Kyle Kegley , her first husband , Christine
began to acquire Shetland ponies to satisfy Robert ’ s childhood desire to own a pony . They then purchased their first registered Miniature horses in England , which grew into what is now known as Circle K Mini- Horse Farm . Christine continued to breed and sell Miniatures on the farm even after the untimely death of her husband in 1990 . She and her second husband , Buford Crockett , continued in the Miniature horse industry , using Kegleys as their prefix on most of the horses they produced .

The 2004 chestnut stallion , Avantes Chasing the Ace reportedly passed away on April 20th . He was loved and owned by Sheryl Peterson of Canby , Oregon . Sheryl described Ace as one of the kindest , sweetest horses she had ever known . Sire of 23 AMHA foals and himself a multiple World and Reserve World Champion . RIP Ace .
AMHA Senior Judge Stephan Nicholson passed away March 29th from a massive heart attack . Steve was a good friend with a delightful sense of humor . AMHR , AMHA and PtHA have lost a knowledgeable and honest judge . Steve will be sorely missed .

News about Barbara Navioux- Jim Curry reported that Barbara has serious health problems and has sold her horses and ranch in Placerville , CA . She will move to Oregon to be near her family and will live with one of her sons . Barbara has been an active member for many years and a long time breeder in the Miniature Horse industry . Many will remember her ranch name of Rodabi-J , named after her four sons . Barbara has been a great supporter of the AMHA , she served as a Director and has Chairperson of the committee that wrote the original Standard of Perfection . She authored the book , “ Miniature Horses , Their Care , Breeding and Coat Colors ” as well as many articles on color genetics . Barb was a founding member of the Valley Sierra MHC and became a member of Norcal Miniature Horse Club soon after it was formed . In all her club activities she was very active and held offices in each . While the appaloosa color was her favorite she also bred many winning pinto colored horses . Barbara will be able to retain her telephone number and plans to keep in touch with her many friends by that means after her move .
