Farm Prefix Reservations

The following Standing Rule was passed by the AMHA Board of Directors at the 2007 Annual Meeting:

“All new prefix/suffix applications will be reviewed by the Registration Department for deceptive similarities. The prefix/suffix will be placed in the Miniature Horse World for one issue and on the AMHA website for 120 days prior to approval.

The Registration Department will search for current prefixes which are similar to the applied prefix and provide this information to the Board. The Board of Directors will review and approve all applications after the 120 days and before the applicants can use the prefix.

New registrations requesting the reserved Farm Prefix will be issued per normal procedure, however if the Far m Prefix name is denied for any reason, AMHA reserves the right to change the horse name. You will be contacted as soon as possible after the 120 day waiting period regarding any name changes.

Winter Cart Storage

Michelle M Welch‎ of New York asks MINIATURE HORSE DISCUSSION BARN on Facebook

I've brought my miniature Jerald show cart into the house for the winter. What is the best position to keep it in? Rest it up with the shafts in the air, rest shafts on a saw horse or some other way?

Kendra Gale Sitting up with shafts in the air is the safest. I am curious why I hear lately of people keeping their carts in the house for the winter? I know they're expensive, but the reason you pay the big price is because they're well made. The cold won't bother them. My Jerald is at least 30 years old - we've had it almost that long and it was used when we got it. It's been kept covered and in an unheated building for thirty Alberta winters, and been used hard, for training, CDE and show, and while it has some understandable wear and tear, the structure of the cart is absolutely sound. I have a Wilform show cart that's even older, and a "knockoff" show cart, that isn't nearly as well made as the other two brands, and none of them show any issues with warping because of cold.

Karen Payne Shaft tips on the floor for extended periods can cause warping that's why you don't want to store them that way.

Michelle M Welch Thank you for the great advice. I bring mine in because I need the stall room. In the summer some of the big horses stay out. But this time of year when the cold and rain come, we bring them in. Plus, I don't want spiders moving in!
