Collaboration
Learn, Grow, Eat & GO! (LGEG) emphasizes science, math, language art, reading, social studies and health
through effective learning activities and is designed to engage children and their families in school gardens,
vegetable recipe tastings, and classroom activities and take home family stories. 4 Independent School
Districts (Edgewood, Harlandale, San Antonio, and South San) implemented LGEG in 16 3 rd grade classrooms
at a total of 5 elementary schools (Collins Garden, Graebner, Schulze, Heritage and Perales) this year. As a
result, Bexar County Commissioner Sergio “Chico” Rodriguez donated $1,000 to Schulze Elementary School to
continue their garden and begin a pollinator garden in the future. In addition, students reported a 27%
increase in willingness to try new fruits and vegetables, a 56 % decrease in “screen” time, and a 17% increase
in gardening activities.
