New Cancer Services in 2017 Oncology Wellness Program Psychosocial Counseling In 2017, we began developing a holistic Oncology Wellness Program. This project will start in 2018 and includes supervised exercise and dietitian- designed healthy eating workshops. Workshops will also include education and cooking demonstrations by a chef. The purpose of our Oncology Wellness program is to assist those undergoing cancer treatment to find a renewed sense of health and improved quality of life while reducing fatigue, increasing activity level and enhancing their physical function. Our Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) meets with patients through Behavioral Health Services to define their concerns and develop an individualized treatment plan. These appointments are designed to help each patient cope with emotional stress through all phases of the cancer experience. This LCSW works with the program’s support services to ensure a therapeutic, healing environment is provided. Registry Report Cancer is a national reportable disease and the Certified Tumor Registrars (CTR) are charged with keeping the hospital compliant with federally and state mandated reporting requirements. Their role also includes monitoring strict adherence to patient confidentiality laws and tracking the progress of our cancer programs. The Renown Cancer Registry Department has one full-time CTR, one Cancer Registry Coordinator and one uncertified CTR. A cancer registry is a system designed to collect information about the occurrence of cancer, the types of cancers that occur, their locations within the body, the extent of cancer at the time of diagnosis and the types of treatments patients receive. Renown provides a hospital-based cancer registry responsible for ensuring our doctors, nurses and researchers have the best quality data to work with when evaluating patient care and response to treatment. This data is also used to identify community and nationwide trends, as well as opportunities for continued quality improvement in caring for our cancer patients at Renown Health. During 2016, Renown Cancer Registry recorded 2,192 reportable cases of cancer and of those, 1,749 patients (80 percent) were analytical cases, meaning they were initially diagnosed and/or received their first treatment at our Renown Institute for Cancer. | 6 |
