Prevention and Screening Programs
Radon Awareness Month
Radon is a major carcinogen according to the
International Agency for Research on Cancer.
The good news? Exposure to radon and the
subsequent health risks is preventable. In January,
the Institute for Cancer and University of Nevada,
Reno’s Nevada Radon Education Program
partnered to host an educational event which
included free radon test kits to the community.
Outcomes of this event are shared in our Quality
Study (page 10).
Skin Screening
In May, our program hosted a booth at the Skin
Cancer Awareness Day at the Farm in Minden, NV.
The goal of this event was to increase awareness
of skin cancer and raise funds for the Coalition’s
Sun Smart Schools, which places sunscreen
dispensers in schools.
Participation of this event reached: 80 attendees; of
which 35 participated in facial skin evaluations and
five were referred for additional assessment. Forty
stopped by the booth and five took educational
information.
